Yard Work & Gardening Alleviate Muscle Pain this Spring

How to Alleviate Muscle Pain This Spring

Spring is an exciting time of the year. The earth comes back to life after the cold weather, bringing colors with it that no amount of man-made paint can compare. The sun starts to shine, giving you an energy boost and motivating you to be more active, preferably outdoors. While yard work and gardening are two favorites among spring lovers, they are also two avenues for muscle pain and fatigue. At Beverly Hills Comprehensive Medical Group, we want to help you enjoy your spring without experiencing the pain.

Prior to Yard Work and Gardening

It is always best to start any physical activity with a warm-up. It does not have to be an extensive warm-up, but completing some stretches to loosen your muscles can minimize your chance of injury. You should especially focus on stretching your back, legs, and arms, though a full body stretch can provide additional benefits.

During Yard Work and Gardening

Be sure that you are working in proper form. Lift with your legs, not your back. Use the proper tools to prevent overuse of your muscles which can cause tension and more. Also, maintain good posture since bad posture can increase your risk tremendously.

After Yard Work and Gardening

Once you have completed your work, stretch again. This will help loosen any muscles that have become tight. If you feel any soreness, you can apply ice to the area in pain, try a dose of ibuprofen, or try a long bath. Resting sore muscles is also important, so try taking it easy for a few days. If the pain is too much to handle or none of the home remedies work, consider seeking chiropractic care.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "They care and have a nice time doing it. I am thinking of going back again, but I am too embarrassed about not having continued with the exercises he prescribed. He said, Do them or you will come back here with worse...and guess what? I am too embarrassed to go back! But still will, I think..."
