Chiropractic care has been relieving pain for decades, but many people still have questions about what it is and how it works for pain management and overall wellness care. Below, our Beverly Hills chiropractic team has answered some of the frequently asked questions about chiropractic care:

How does chiropractic care treat pain?

Chiropractic care is a non-invasive, drug-free treatment technique for managing certain types of pain (e.g., back pain and neck pain) that is caused by a musculoskeletal misalignment. A traumatic injury such as an auto accident, sports accident or personal injury can cause a musculoskeletal misalignment. When the vertebra are out of alignment, they can compress nearby nerves, triggering recurring pain. Our chiropractor uses gentle, precise adjustments to restore proper alignment to the spine and relieve this nerve compression.

What is a spinal adjustment?

A spinal adjustment is a treatment technique used by our chiropractor to restore proper alignment to the spine. We offer both hands-on thrust adjustments as well as precise instrument-based adjustments.

Will a spinal adjustment hurt?

In general, spinal adjustments are gentle and painless. While you may feel a momentary popping sensation, this is simply from the misaligned vertebra moving back into place. Adjustments bring long-lasting pain relief by alleviating pressure on the pinched nerve.

Is a chiropractor qualified to treat injuries?

Our chiropractic care team has completed specialized training in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, including back pain, neck pain, headaches, TMJ disorder, sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, and more. In fact, when compared with the material that medical students study, chiropractors actually complete hundreds of more hours studying anatomy, physiology, neurology and orthopedics. Our chiropractic team is qualified to treat injuries, and more than 90% of our patients are referred by other medical professionals or patients, reflecting the confidence that both our medical peers and patients have in our skills.

What should I expect during my first visit?

During your first visit to our practice, Dr. Jacobsen and our team will conduct a full physical diagnostic exam to determine the precise cause for your musculoskeletal pain. For example, if you are experiencing back pain, this diagnostic exam will help us pinpoint the location of the spinal misalignment that is triggering this pain. Once we have located the misalignment, Dr. Jacobsen will create a personalized treatment plan to address this pain.

How many treatment sessions are necessary to relieve my pain?

Everyone experiences pain differently and may face different health problems. For this reason, all of our care is completely customized to each patient’s specific health needs. Depending on the cause and location of your pain, you may experience immediate relief after just a few treatment sessions. Other patients may benefit from ongoing care for several months. At the beginning of each treatment program, we discuss the causes of your pain and together we will create a plan that best addresses your health needs.

What services do you offer in addition to chiropractic care?

We are a complete health center, which means we also offer urgent care, women’s health exams, medical weight loss counseling and general medical care from our family physician. Our chiropractic adjustments are a natural complement to these medical services, enhancing whole body health from the inside out.

  • "They care and have a nice time doing it. I am thinking of going back again, but I am too embarrassed about not having continued with the exercises he prescribed. He said, Do them or you will come back here with worse...and guess what? I am too embarrassed to go back! But still will, I think..."
