Exercise Matters

Your body is a biomechanical structure. If a sports injury leaves you with a limp, for example, other parts of the body will begin to hurt or react to changes in your gait or movements. Rehabilitation in the form of chiropractic care nearly always includes corrective exercises designed to strengthen and stretch the muscles. This helps relieve pain and restore function and mobility. In addition, exercise promotes better circulation, which improves health at a cellular level as nutrients are carried to the cells and waste products carried away.

Corrective Exercise and Rehabilitation

If you are injured or have become unfit for whatever reason, rehabilitation can help restore function. For example, a fractured ankle must be immobilized for weeks. During that time, muscles atrophy; tendons and ligaments shorten. Once the cast or immobilizing device is removed, you need exercises to stretch and strengthen the muscles. Your chiropractor will typically design a series of movements to achieve this goal. You may also use something like an elastic band or ankle weights to provide resistance and force the muscles to work harder.
