Indications That Your Infant May Need Urgent Care

Regardless if you are having your first or fourth child, early infant care can be hard to navigate for any parent. That is why our team here at Beverly Hills Comprehensive Medical Group is here to provide the best quality of pediatric care for your child. While we can help, it is still important to know the signs that your infant might need urgent care. Here are a few of the signs and what you can do beforehand.

Four Signs to Watch for in Infants

  1. Difficulty breathing - There is a wide range of reasons why your child may either stop breathing or have difficulty breathing. Wheezing and even breathing rapidly are obvious signs that something is wrong and needs emergency attention. We recommend all parents learn CPR for infants.
  2. Blood in the diaper or vomit - If you notice any blood in your baby’s stool or your throw up, your next step should be contacting us. While it can be scary, not every instance will mean your child has a severe medical condition, but it is important to figure out what is causing it before the issue worsens.
  3. A red, swollen, or sore tongue - When an infant's tongue is red or swollen, it may indicate an infection such as scarlet fever or a sign of food allergies. These symptoms are also commonly associated with anemia. Anemia means the baby's diet lacks sufficient iron.
  4. Fever - A fever is an indication that your child may be suffering from an infection. Fevers often show up as part of the flu, cold, or as a symptom of a wide range of other medical issues. You should seek immediate care for any baby younger than three months old who has a fever. For those older than three months, see our team if the fever exceeds 102 degrees or the child shows signs like confusion, refusing to eat, or changes in behavior.

Testimonials

Reviews By Our Satisfied Patients

  • "They care and have a nice time doing it. I am thinking of going back again, but I am too embarrassed about not having continued with the exercises he prescribed. He said, Do them or you will come back here with worse...and guess what? I am too embarrassed to go back! But still will, I think..."
