5 Tips for Lower Back Pain

Tips for Lower Back Pain Relief from your Beverly Hills Chiropractor

Back pain is a common complaint, but few people understand many of the ways in which they can prevent back aches. There is more to back pain relief than simply avoiding heavy lifting. Here are some tips that can help you maintain great back health and avoid persistent back aches.

Five Tips from our Beverly Hills Office

  1. Up Your Vitamins

If you are wondering how to treat back pain, you should know that certain vitamin deficiencies such as Vitamin K, can greatly contribute to weakened bones and muscles. When these bones and muscles are weakened then they cannot function properly. Thus, they must work harder than is necessary which can result in soreness. To prevent this, you can increase your vitamin K intake with green veggies such as broccoli. If you have a hard time heaping on the vegetables then try a vitamin K supplement.

  1. Lighten Up

healthy_food_to_prevent_back_painMen and women alike are dragging around heavier bags as their lives become busier and more active. When these bags exceed 10% of your entire body weight, you are compromising the integrity of your back. In most cases these bags are carried improperly as well, putting too much strain on one side of the body or the other. When this happens your muscles will try to overcompensate resulting in pain. Try to lighten up your bags and make sure the weight is distributed safely when carrying them.

  1. Watch How You Sleep

Improper sleeping habits can also contribute to back pain. Mattresses that are too firm can cause muscles to overcompensate as well, resulting in stiff joints and muscles. Pillows can also contribute to back pain when they are too high and raise the neck out of alignment. The best way to rest is with the entire body aligned as much as possible.

  1. Strengthen Your Abs

Strengthening your core through ab exercises can also relieve excessive strain on your back muscles. If you lack core support, back muscles must work harder in order to support the body.

  1. Hydrate

Dehydration can often contribute to aching muscles. Remember to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
