Daily Activities that Accumulate Injuries - High Heels

high heels Beverly HillsAre you experiencing pain in your back? The reason could be on the bottoms of your feet. High heels force an unnatural posture that can, over time, cause chronic pain. They cause muscle tension on a daily basis. Over time, the pressure on nerves in your spine can lead to painful sciatica. But, there are ways to balance fashion with your comfort and health.

Ways to Reduce Footwear-Related Back Pain

Maintaining your spine health doesn't mean giving up your favorite footwear. There are many things you can do to reduce the pressure on your back while still expressing your sense of style.

For everyday wear, pick heels that are lower. Ones with a wide base spread weight more evenly to avoid putting excess pressure on your heels. Save the stilettos for evenings out. Wearing stiletto heels on a regular basis can shorten your Achilles tendon, and lead to pain in your calves.

Always pick shoes that fit your foot well. Never buy something that almost fits just because it is a good deal or a gorgeous style. In shoes that are too big, you feet slide forward, which puts even more pressure on your toes. Shoes that fit poorly also increase your chances of losing your balance, falling and injuring your back.

Save heels for days when you will be walking least. On days at work that involve a lot of time on your feet, flats are a better pick. If you are going out for the evening, bring a pair of foldable flats so that you can change shoes.

Remove your heels as soon as you get home and take some time to stretch. Standing on a step with your heels hanging over to gently stretch your calves can help relieve muscle tightness there.

No matter what sort of footwear you love, always remember to put your health first. By picking and choosing when to wear heels, you can show off your favorite looks while looking and feeling your best.

  • "They care and have a nice time doing it. I am thinking of going back again, but I am too embarrassed about not having continued with the exercises he prescribed. He said, Do them or you will come back here with worse...and guess what? I am too embarrassed to go back! But still will, I think..."
